Not too much to say today. It's pouring outside right now, a bit of thunder and lightening as well. After 3ish years I'm finally getting used to the idea of a summer storm that lights up the sky. Can't say I like it yet, but at least I can usually sleep through it now.
B's talk at Toorcon went well. He's got several more "appearances" coming up in Oct. and then a big ol' break until the spring. Thank goodness too, cause those new book deadlines are fast approaching.
Going to Pumpkinville tomorrow with a buddy of Terran's. I'll try to remember to bring the camera so I can post a photo or two. Sadly, it seems it's going to wet for awhile there in the morn.
Seriously, not much new to report. Yeah, I know I still need to type up the story of our painters and Bruce's accident. I will. I promise. :)
Heidi had a terrible headache today so I stayed home and watched the kiddos. They both did really well and didn't terrorize me too bad. At some point, Bobby put on Heidi's sandals and started walking around. That's fairly impressive because he's still getting used to walking with his own feet, let alone adult shoes. So I took a video of it and sent it to Heidi who was upstairs resting (yes, technology is wonderful). It was so cute, we decide to post it for your enjoyment.
As luck would have it, the worst of the storm seemed to avoid our part of Loudoun County.
Lucky for us. Rather unlucky for others.
The path the storm did end up taking likely is going to result in a greater financial burden for the state due to all the low laying ground and flooding that most likely occurred.
I say most likely because after watching CNN and The Weather Channel all day yesterday I'm a bit burnt out on Isabel news today and haven't bothered to read much more than headlines.
We have a few fallen branches in the yard, lots of leaves both brown and green, and everything is just plain wet, but again we were lucky. Our power didn't even go out.
School's aren't open and numerous restaurants east of here are closed either due to power or water shortages.
Living on the East Coast is quite the difference from the quiet Alaska life we used to lead. I kid you not.
The wind and rain are supposed to hit us hard later today. Schools all over VA have been cancelled for the day. Our local rec center where T takes his swimming lessons has cancelled all of today's activities as well. Even the Gov't has decided to take the day off.
They are expecting 6-10 inches of rain in our general area.
So we've taken care to clear out our gutters, move a lot of outside furniture inside or to the basement, make sure our gas cans are full (for possible generator use) and filled both propane tanks for the grill.
We've also made sure we have plenty of batteries, candles, matches and that kind of stuff.
As for food, at any given time I have enough food in this house to feed us for a month or more so that wasn't really an issue - though B did make a late night run yesterday to get some Lactaid for Bobby (our lactose intolerant milk drinker).
What most people seemed to be concerned with around here is the possibility of the power going out for several days. All the high winds and rain certainly could have that effect.
Thank goodness we don't live on the Carolina coast.
It's raining....
It's pouring....
It's downright wet around here. :)
Busy two weeks for the Potters. First the chaos of starting school and getting everyone (well okay, getting Terran and I) back into that routine. One week of that, and then this week T started his swim and basketball lessons. Swimming is Tues/Thurs before kindergarten. Basketball is on Saturdays.
There's more happening in our lives and I will write about that soon. To give you a teaser...think about my unfinished paint job and rear-ending someone who then tries to turn it into more than it really is.
*sigh*
