Summer's End

I've not been an active blogger this summer. Can't say that it's going to get much better in the next few weeks either. Sorry folks. :) However, in an effort to let people know we're still up and running, here's a brief run down of what's been happening and what's to come.

July passed by rather quickly. We started the month with a big ol' pool party on the 3rd. This was our first time opening up the pool to a large crowd and even with the many unknowns we started out with, the party went off without a hitch. No one drowned, all was good. Bruce's brother arrived with family in tow for a quick 3 day visit. It's always nice to see family on our turf for once, returning the favors of being hosted time and time again. Bruce and I celebrated 8 years together on the 6th. This was marked by a very rare opportunity to go out to dinner alone. No kids means not having to aim for a kid friendly restaurant. It was a nice night. A few days later we headed up north for the annual Potter Family get-together. This meant a week of fishing, hanging out with all the cousins, swimming, and playing tourist in Bruce's hometown. Then it was time to head for home and the Reagan Airport where we picked up my brother who was visiting from Alaska.

The last few weeks we've been teaching him how to swim, doing his school shopping (he's 14), and taking him to see some of the sights. We did the National Zoo and new Air and Space Museum in Dulles. I kid you not, the kid absolutely did not know how to swim when he got here. When we put him on the airplane this morning headed back to AK, he went home a fish.

So now I have a few days rest before we again head up to NY to celebrate Bruce's birthday (he and Terran are going to a Nascar race too - I'm jealous). Then it's home again for visits from two of my girlfriends (headed in from Seattle and Boulder) as well as my sister and her kid. Then NY (again) for a wedding. The day after we get home from that trip - school starts and the summer will be officially over for the kiddos.

I'm not ready for it. I'll miss Terran while he's gone all day for the first time. We've been having so much fun together that this will be a big adjustment for me and Bobby. The little one has some serious brother worship going on. We'll just call that a mixed blessing at the moment.

Not too sure what September has in store for us just yet. Bruce has some travel lined up over the next few months - tho nothing is final at the moment. I'm hoping to get in a football game or two this fall (um, go redskins) and maybe a few other family type outings.

And there you have it. The summer in a nutshell, as it were.
