Bobby has a heart murmur. We've known about this since birth and he has been under the care of a cardiologist since he was bout 6 weeks old. Although the murmur was not by itself a major concern, during those first few tests he was also found to have restricted blood flow through his aortic valve. A small fistula was also seen - this is like a small lip of skin, or a flap, on the wall of his heart. Again, no *major* or *immediate* concerns - but bring him back in six months and we'll look at him again.
Six months later, they tell us that things haven't really gotten better, but they haven't gotten worse. Bring him back in a year (in the mean time, his regular pediatrician monitors his murmur and will let us know if we need to go back sooner).
So last week we had a slew of Doctor's visits. Bobby's 18 month well child, and then his cardiologist appointments. And there is good news indeed.
In the last year both the flow issue and the fistula have resolved themselves. He still has the murmur, but the cardilogist was confident it was resolve itself within the next 5 years. He then released Bobby from his care!
So good news... It's very nice to be able to let go of part of the worry.
And we're just happy and thankful. :)
