Someone knocks on my door and asks, "Is your mom or dad home?"
Yeah, no kidding. And I *never* know what to say. Usually I respond with a lame and relatively monotone, "This is my house, how can I help you." And I've often thought about some elaborate response, something like "Hmmm... Well, it's 4pm here. That's noon in Alaska. I'm guessing they're still at work. Want me to call and find out?"
But I'm a big chicken I guess. So I'm looking for witty comebacks that aren't necessarily over the top. I've had two suggestions thus far:
*I AM* the mom - this one I like. Simple and direct.
My mom and dad are dead - Oof. Nope. Can't say that. Hard enough to type it. Don't wish it. Why think it. (Although it would probably have the desired affect.)
There's a second half to this rant I won't go into right now. You know, the part about not believing I look young enough to merit guardians. But we'll save that for another day.
I think you should giggle, twirl your hair, and snap your gum and whip out the valley girl, "Like, (exasperated sigh) I AM the woman of the house!"
